Mark was born in Minneapolis, MN on July 6, 1946 and spent his youth in Burlington, NJ, where he graduated from Burlington H.S. in 1964. He briefly attended Rutgers University, but the pull of playing music in the clubs of Greenwich Village won out. He moved to San Francisco in 1968, where he lived with Steve Davidson, and then to Caspar in 1969.
